Early Childhood Education at Z-Bini Kidz, California

May 2 · Did You Know?

Through the Acorn app we’re able to support businesses that make our communities thrive. Everyday we learn more about our activity providers and their inspiring efforts to enrich the wellbeing of children and families. Today, we're featuring Karina Godoy, Founder of Z-Bini Kidz, California.

1. Please tell us a little about yourself and your business:

Name: Karina Godoy
Speciality: Well rounded, early childhood education
When the business was started: June 3, 2017
Where are you based: South Bay Galleria in Redondo Beach

2. You have a mixture of classes, from science to Spanish, dance to play-time. What motivates you to choose these subjects?

I was motivated by what I saw as a gap in early childhood education. I've seen places where kids can get active and learn music and movement, or I've seen places where kids can get tutoring or take language classes. I couldn't find a place that did both. I wanted Z-Bini Kidz to be a place where children can learn to be well rounded and develop an interest in all different kinds of knowledge.

3. Tell us about a favourite moment teaching.

My favorite moment was when I was teaching Zumbini. We had a child come in and she is on the spectrum. We always strive to make our classes accessible to all children, but she was having a hard time at first, seeming to feel out of place. But the more time she spent with us, the more she came out of her shell. It was amazing to see her grow so much and become more social with the other kids.

4. What are your birthday parties like?

We have three different types of birthday parties so we have a party that suits every need and budget. For our parties, we always close the store, so it's a private party, just for the birthday child and his or her friends. The party has private access to our play area and can choose to add on more to their experience, like inviting a princess or superhero or taking a Zumbini class.

5. Tell us about your collaboration with Charter Schools, and do you have any more projects or exciting things we should know about?

We were connected with Inspire and Compass Charter Schools by parents who had taken our classes before. They reached out to the schools to tell them about what we were offering and those schools reached out to us. Now students at those charter schools can use their Instructional Funds to take our classes. It's all a part of the goal of making learning go beyond the classroom.

We have a lot of exciting things going on right now! On Fridays, we now offer Parents Night Out, where parents can drop their kids off and take their own time in the mall while we watch their kids. On April 21, we also have an event just for the moms, which is a workshop with the incredible women's life coach Thais Sky, all about self-care. Plus, our monthly character meet and greet will be happening at the end of this month on April 28, with Wonder Woman!
